Liquidators
Liquidators buy up excess stock, broken, damaged, and unseasonable or outmoded items from
stores for pennies on the dollar. They then divide everything up into pallet lots of similar items and
resell them. This is a great way to get designer clothing and brand name items for below cost.

Points to note:
• Liquidations consist of new, overstock, customer returns, and some damaged product.
• Liquidations can and often will contain out of season items. What some new sellers fail to
realize is that there is a market for these products any time of the year: Think of the upper
states of the USA for instance, these places are cold almost year round..
• Liquidation pallets contain ‘fillers’. These are small items added purely to stop the main
items from moving and becoming damaged.
• Liquidation is different to other supply methods, because you will be dealing with used
items as well as new. It takes time to learn how to successfully make money from
liquidations, just like with any other supply method.
Is best for: eBay sellers – liquidation allows you to offer great prices on brand name and designer
items, while still making a good margin.
Pitfalls: All pallets contain goods in mixed condition and it can be a bit ‘luck of the draw’ as to
what you receive.In general, expect to find up to 15% of the contents damaged, although this may
increase with some less reliable liquidators who cherry-pick the best items, leave of pallet of 80%
duds. This problem can be managed if you inspect the pallets personally before bidding.
With most liquidators you can expect anywhere from 45%- to as high as 60% damaged. 50%-60%
items in a non-saleable condition. However, some liquidators will cherry-pick the best items, leav-
ing a pallet of 80% duds. This problem can be managed if you can inspect the items personally.
Checking the inventory list thoroughly is also beneficial.
